Resin Price Hikes Take Effect Sept 1: Allnex and Hengshui Xinguang Raise Prices, Cost Pressure Transmits Downstream

Effective September 1, Allnex Resin officially raised the tax-inclusive prices of powder coating resins by 500 yuan/ton across indoor, standard weather-resistant and super weather-resistant grades, while powder additives remain unchanged. This marks Allnex's third round of price increases in 2026, following 500 yuan/ton hikes in January and March. The company cited rising prices of core raw materials such as PTA and neopentyl glycol (NPG) as the direct cause. On the same day, Hengshui Xinguang also announced tiered price increases for architectural coatings and waterproof emulsion products, with market sources indicating hikes of approximately 200–300 yuan/ton for standard styrene-acrylic, 300–400 yuan/ton for elastic/textured paint emulsions, and 400–600 yuan/ton for waterproof, pure-acrylic and silicone-acrylic emulsions. The core driver is a collective surge in raw materials: PTA operating rates fell to multi-year lows in August due to concentrated plant maintenance; East China hydrogenated NPG prices reached 9,200–9,400 yuan/ton, up over 1,000 yuan/ton from early August; butyl acrylate rose from 6,800 yuan/ton in early July to 8,800–8,900 yuan/ton, a gain of over 2,000 yuan/ton. September–October is the traditional peak season for architectural coatings and waterproof construction, and rising downstream operating rates create conditions for cost pass-through. However, many small and medium-sized coating enterprises with thin margins face intensified pressure, squeezed between upstream price hikes and downstream resistance. As a Hong Kong-based resin and valve import/export trader, Loonwan closely monitors the impact of this raw material surge on the global resin supply chain, helping international buyers lock in favorable procurement windows and flexibly source across regions to hedge cost volatility during upward price cycles.
